History of Siddhagad Fort

In old times, the shipments touching base at the port of Malvan and Achara were transported to diverse commercial centers for business and exchange by means of a few mountain courses. Subsequently, numerous posts were built in vital areas to ensure these critical exchange courses.

Siddhagad stronghold in the Sindhudurg area was constructed to keep a watch on the course from Malvan and Achara port towards Ajara market. This course passes through the Kasal River and the mountain section of Ghotgi and the fortification was deliberately built to keep a watch on this course.
Siddhagad was manufactured by the Savant tribe. In April-May 1818, A British Colonel, Henry Imlach (1760-1830), endeavored to catch the stronghold. Notwithstanding, because of a solid safeguard from Savant's, Henry Imlach needed to recover.

A division of the 80th Regiment from Malvan was called upon to fortify the regiment. The Colonel again assaulted the stronghold and caught it.

Siddhagad is spread around 25 sections of land. In any case, today, there are no signs to demonstrate that the stronghold was once spread around 25 sections of land. As one enters the fort, there is a vast level secured in laterite (Jambha) known as "Kaap" or "Sada" in the local Malvani Language.
