The fort is dedicated to God bhairi
the god of Thakur Adivasis hence it is called as Dhak - Bhairi. The fort
of Dhak-Bhairi was discovered by great historian Mr. Gopal Nilkanth Dandekar.
He said that Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj once visited these religious
caves of God Bhairi, Maharaj gifted a golden plate to the god. There are utensils in the caves which can
be used for cooking.
After using the utensils one has to clean the utensils and
keep were they. People say that if any one tries to steal the utensils or take them
away he/she dies. The temple is highly religious places were ladies or females
are not allowed.
A recent story of the temple is God bhairi
was seen by the villagers in their dreams she said "I am covered with a
layer please remove it. This dream was told to the villagers and his
friends.
The villagers and his friends went into
the caves, they filled with interest and sang bhajjans this took
three days and three nights in a row. The person who dreamed about the god
bhairi took a needle and pinned the rock to remove the oil and shendur which was layered on the rock.
After which god bhairi came out with a big noise
after the cover removed. They repeated with other two rocks nearby they
discovered Idol carved with lord ganesh and Devi bhavani on the
rock.

Dhak - bhairi is actually a cave not a
fort. This fort was used for guarding the surroundings same as the forts of Rajmachi
which are Shreevardhan and Manoranjan. The fort is mostly visited
by the adventure lovers and who are fed-up with the daily work and need a
break.
The Dhak - Bhairi is famous for its trekking experience and rappelling. The fort has 5 - 6 water cisterns on the
top and a cave with two water cisterns. We can see Rajmachi, Duke's Nose,
Manikgad, Karnala, Bhimashankar, Visapur etc. from the top of the
fort.
The route to the fort has rock cut steps and they can be risky at some
times. The route is hard at some places so proper care and trekking equipment's
are required. The trek can test your stamina and rappelling skills.
