History of Gagangad fort.

Gagangad was constructed by Raja Bhoj (Shilahara Dynasty) in 1190. After that, Singhan Yadava crushed King Bhoj in 1209 and caught this fortification. In the wake of separating Bahamani tradition, this fort went under the Adilshahi rule.

In the Maratha Empire, Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj appointed their head of Ramchandrapant Amatya as Jahagir. In 1844 British armed forces crushed the Gagangad fortress.
Gagangad known as Gaganbawda is found 55 km from Kolhapur. Gaganbawda is a hill station on the way reaching to Sindhudurg region and Goa thereafter known as Mahayogi Gagangiri Maharaj.
Gaganbawada is on the starting of well-known Karul Ghat & Bhuibawada Ghat.

The main spot at which has the starting of two ghats and has different directions at the same time, one towards Talere-Kankavali (Karul Ghat) and another towards the Kharepatan-Rajapur (Bhuibawada Ghat).

Gaganbawda Hill Station.
Gaganbawda is an unexplored and lesser-known hill station accessible on the way Kolhapur, Pune or Mumbai. Located in the mountains of the Sahyadri range, the fort is 55 kilometers from Kolhapur and 46 kilometers from Kankvali place.
