History of Khanderi Fort

Khanderi Fort is situated in the Thal village. Khanderi fort with her sister fort Underi formed the major fort in the Maharashtra. These forts were under the control of Shivaji Maharaj and later it went under the control of Siddis. 
In the year 1660, Khanderi fort was built by the King of Maratha Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The island of Khanderi consists of two high hills, one at the North and other at the south. The islands of Underi and Khanderi were occupied.
Khanderi fort was captured by Shivaji Maharaj with his forces and also oversaw the building of fort walls.
