History of Ghangad Fort
Not much is mentioned about the fort, no documentations are available about the fort. But it is said that fort was used by the Peshwa's as prison to keep prisoners. This fort was originally taken by the 'Koli Samant' and later during the reign of 'Adilshah' he captured the fort from him, and then onwards it went in the hands of marathas.
Time to reach the top
It will take around 30-60 minutes to reach the fort but at some part of the fort is harder to trek but it can be managed in an hour.

Best time to visit the fort
One can visit the Ghangad till end of monsoon season to the starting of summer. Which is September to April there are many problems related in summer which includes Water and much more.
Water Availability
Water may be a problem in summer but may be available in rainy season. In summer water may be available but not suitable for drinking..
Accommodation Availability
There is no accommodation on the fort but temple is available which can accommodate 15-20 peoples. Which is called the temple of Goddess 'Garjai'
Places to visit on the Ghangad Fort
Bastins, fortifications, a few water cisterns, Goddess Garjai temple. It is surrounded by many spots one can see wonderful view of the 'Telbaila','Sudhagad','Sarasgad' and Backwaters of Mulshi lake, Also 'Nandand ghat','Vashnicha ghat' and Bhorpaychi Nal.

Pune to Ghangad By Bus
From Pune there are ST (State Transport) buses available to Lonavala, Pune to Lonavala is around 70 kilometers, from Lonavala there is bus available to Bhaburde village, which is 40 kilometers from Lonavala , then walk 20-25 minutes and reach Ekole village.
Pune to Ghangad By Train
From Pune there are many local train available to Lonavala,Pune junction to Lonavala is around 70 kilometers, from Lonavala there is bus available to Bhaburde village, which is 40 kilometers from Lonavala , then walk 20-25 minutes and reach Ekole village.
Pune to Ghangad By Road
One can reach Pirangut from then onwards on the route of 'Tamhini ghat' reach Mulshi and follow same route Which takes you to Bhamburde after crossing Tamhini at last reach Ekola and from there onwards start your trek..

Mumbai - Lonavala - Ambavane - Ekola(Ghangad).(125 kilometer) From Mumbai to Ghangad -Trekkers from Mumbai go to Lonavala from there go to Ambavane from there reach Ekola(Ghangad).
Places to visit nearby the Ghangad Fort
Tung Fort
It's height around 1075 meters Above sea level, it is surrounded by water on three sides, trekkers can reach 'Tungi' base village by boats. The fort is difficult but easier to access. It is also known as 'Kathingad', it was built for the purpose of protecting the region of 'Maval'.
It was built in 1600 CE was under 'Adilshahi' dynasty but later captured by the Maratha ruler 'Shivaji Maharaj'. It is in oval shape many bastions are on the fort from the top of the fort one can see Lohagad, Visapur, Tikona and Korigad forts clearly. It takes around 45 minutes from 'Tungwadi'.
Korigad is a beautiful fort. It is about 3050 feet from the sea level and the trek is pretty easy. The base village is 'Peth Shahpur' . In 1657 'Shivaji Maharaj' captured and included the forts Lohagad, Visapur, Tung and Tikona.
During the attacks of the Britishers it was captured by dropping bombs and Side by side captured Ghangad with this reign. It is a simple trek.
It is source of water to PCMC. It is great place for one day visit it is great picnic spot. The major part belongs to 'Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj' four forts like Lohagad, Visapur, Tunga and Tikona.
There's a boat club which is known as the 'Lohagad boat club' which is a resort also dam is also used by many entertainment likes Movie shooting is also done here..
Bedse Caves
The caves have been carved in 1st century the caves are in the direction of the sunrise so early morning when the sun rays come on the caves it looks wonderful". The carvings are also beautifully see.
An incident says that the caves where once visited by a British officer he discovered about the fort and he renewed the caves carvings and repainted the caves by which the original carvings where lost.
Ghoradeshwar Caves
The caves basically related to 'Lord Shiva' there is a 'Linga' in the caves which is worshipped by the villagers of 'Gorawadi' the caves are not so good from architectural view caves are included with temples and much more.
Lohagad Fort Lohagad and Visapur are neighbouring forts which have historical importance Lohagad on the hand is 3450 feet's above sea level this place was used to keep the treasure which was taken by 'Shivaji Maharaj' under the supervision of 'Netaji Palkar' Maharaj used the fort to keep an eye on 'Konkan' and 'Bhor ghat'.
Lohagad fort
Lohagad is a good trekking destination and a good one day spot. Both neighbouring forts can be reached from Lonavala and Malavali railway station from which first comes Visapur and second comes Lohagad.
Visapur is 3550 feetabove sea level. It was built during 1713-1720 by 'Balaji Vishwanath', the 'First Peshwa' of Maratha Empire.
Visapur fort was attacked and occupied. Visapur fort is larger and at a higher elevation than its twin forts Lohagad. 'Hanuman' is deity of Visapur Fort. This is the only fort which 'Shivaji Maharaj' never visited. It is said that the well on the fort was built by the 'Pandavas'. Unlike the inner structure, majority of its wall is still intact. It is high and strengthened.
