Type Pattagad Fort is a hill fort

Height Pattagad is 4562 ft (1390 Meter) above sea level.

In the year 1672, the fort went into the hands of the Marathas they captured this fort with other forts in the region Nashik and Baglan, which took under the command of Moropant Pingle who was captured by the Mughals.
Shivaji Maharaj reached Sangamner in Ahmednagar after capturing Jalnapur the city of Jalna. Mughals attacked Shivaji Maharaj with a large amount of army. Shivaji Maharaj was trapped from three side's. But anyhow the Marathas defeated Mughals in a huge battle.
On 16th November Shivaji maharaj came to Pattagad with the help of his Bahirji Naik (who was the chief of detective department) safely. This fort was on the edge of Swarajya. Because of his wounds and illness, Shivaji Maharaj stayed for 1 month at the fort and recovered successfully.
Hence this fort is also called Vishramgad. After Rajgad and Raigad this is the only fort on which Shivaji Maharaj stayed for such a long time. Near the fort is a Rajwada fallen into dismay and no care is taken of the palace. Devi mandir is being constructed near the fort.
On the fort, there are caves that hold the shrine of Shri Laxmangiri Maharaj. The followers of Maharaj gather here on the day of the full moon the 'Poornima'. Trekkers usually plan Aundh, Pattagad and Bitangad.

From Pune there are ST (State Transport) buses available to Igatpuri, distance between Pune to Igatpuri are 240 kms, and then go to Pattawadi by the Igatpuri - Ghoti - Takadgaon, from Takadgaon to Pattawadi local transport are available, it takes 1 hrs.

From Pune junction there are trains available to Iagtpuri station,Pune junction to Igatpuri is around 240 kms, and then go to Pattawadi by the Igatpuri - Ghoti - Takedgaon, from Takadgaon to Pattawadi local transport are available, it takes 1 hrs.

From Mumbai there are ST (State Transport) buses or trains available to Igatpuri, distance between Mumbai to Igatpuri are 121 kms and then go to Pattawadi by the Igatpuri - Ghoti - Takedgaon, from Takadgaon to Pattawadi local transport are available, it takes 1 hrs.

Fort of Aundha
This fort is at the height 4400 feet above the sea level and a very hard-grade trek in the Kalsubai mountain range. The Kalsubai range is divided into two parts on one side there are forts such as Alang, Madan, Kulang and Kalsubai.
The other side is Aundh, Pattagad, Bitangad, Aad and the Mountain of Mhasoba. This fort actually is a pinnacle as the top of the fort has a small base. This fort was mostly used for keeping the watch on surrounding regions of Kalsubai. There are 5-6 cisterns and from one of the cave hold potable water. The entrance of the fort is carved in a single rock.
Pattagad, Bitangad, Alang, Madan, Kulang, Kalsubai can be seen form the fort. 1 hour is enough to see the fort. Care should be taken while climbing the fort as the route is hard. Trekkers usually plan for Aundh - Pattagad - Bitangad.
Bitangad fort
This fort is located at a height of 4000 feet above sea level and a medium-grade trek. The area of the fort is small on the top hence it can be said that the fort was used as a watch tower same as the Aundh fort.
Also, there are very less remnants of the fort. The fort has a place where one can stay overnight to enjoy the scene during the night. It takes 1 hour to reach from the base village. Any time you can visit the fort.
Kavnai fort
This fort is situated at a height of 2500 feet above sea level and a medium-grade trek. This fort is in the western range of Kalsubai with other forts such as Tringalwadi, Kavnai, Harihar, Brahmagiri and Anjaneri fort.
Whereas the eastern part has Kalsubai, Kulang, Alang, Avandha and Pattagad fort.
The main entrance of the fort is still in good condition, a cave can be seen on the right side of the fort. We can see a pond facing the south side of the fort. There are many remnants of the buildings near the pond.
We can see a bastion and a water cistern near the bastion. 30- 40 minutes are enough to see the fort and great of the Kalsubai range, Trimbak range, Tringalwadi and some other forts can be seen from the fort.
It requires 60 mins to reach the top of the fort from the base village Kavnai.4-5 peoples can stay in the cave near the entrance of the fort, and drinking water is available on the cistern till the month of April. Other forts such as Tringlewadi, Harihar, Brahmagiri and Anjaneri forts are in the surrounding areas.

ReplyWe are planning to go Pattagad and Aadgad by train only from Mumbai and if you have any phone no. From Kasara or igatpuri private car driver or jeep driver, it will help us if you have any.
