History of Salher Fort

Lord Parshuram after winning the earth, he gave earth in donation and started tapsya on the salher fort. Lord Purshuram pushed the sea with his arrows from this place and made land to live for himself. Salher fort is ancient as well as historically important.

This fort saw huge battles between the Marathas and the Mughals. In 1671 Shivaji Maharaj had the fort in his rule. But in 1672 Mughals attacked the fort. In this war around 1 lakh soldiers fought. But Shivaji Maharaj won the battle after many soldiers died in this war.

The battle of Salher had the most significant impact due to this war had never been won by the Shivaji Maharaj before. This battle made Shivaji Maharaj famous due to his courage and bravery. In this same period, Maharaj won Mulher and raised their flag in the Baglan region.

After Maharaj Peshwas took the fort and then by British. The battle made news to the Mughal emperor in Delhi. He commented that even after sending lakhs of soldiers they returned disgracefully and was tensed whom should he send for the battle.

He appointed Ikhlaas Khan and Bahlol Khan for the war with 20000 horses to attack Salher. Ikhlaas Khan planned to attack Salher fort. The siege by the Ikhlaas Khan made news to Shivaji Maharaj and Shivaji Maharaj sent commander-in-chief Pratap Rao to go with the troops and kick off Bahlol Khan.

A letter was also sent to the moropant peshwa from the vagranti kokan and help Prataprao in the battle of Salher. They both took stand on both the sides and a huge battle broke out in this region.The battle was so fierce that in took on days and nights, Mughals, Pathans and Rajputs with canons, elephants, horses and camel troops with each other.

The battle was rose a dust in 3 kms and troops didn't knew that whom were they fighting. 10000 soldiers died in this war and blood was flowing like a river. In this blood battle, Ikhlaas Khan and 
Bahlol Khan lost to the Marathas.

Shivaji Maharaj lost around 110000 soldiers in this war and 10000 of them returned from the war.This war gave Shivaji Maharaj 6,000 horses, 6,000 camels, 150 elephants gold ornaments and coins even some expensive cloth from the enemies.

Soldiers of Marathas showed courage in this battle Surya rao kakde sacrificed him during the battle. A canon ball hit him and he died. He was described as "Karna of Mahabharata" lying dead on the battlefield. The battle of Salher proved a great war between the Mughals and the Shivaji Maharaja's troops. Shivaji Maharaj never won such a big battle before.

The strategy made by the Maratha soldiers and Shivaji Maharaj made him more famous all over Maharashtra and India. The battle of Salher showed the intelligence, bravery, and courage of the soldiers in the Maratha army. We can see the temple, Ganga sagartalav and much more on the fort.

Mulher fort
This is the same fort that Shivaji Maharaj won with the Salher fort in the fiercely battle between the Mughals and the Marathas.

The fort was taken aback by the Mughals. In 1752 according to the treaty of Bhalki Khandesh in went into the hands of Marathas. And later In 1818 it went into the hands of the British. This fort is at the height of 4290 feet above sea level and a medium-grade trek.

Moragad fort
There is no history available about the fort but this fort is part of mulher fort geographically. The fort has few water cisterns and remnants of the building structures on the fort. We can see forts such as Hargad, Mangi-Tungi, Nhavigad, Tambolya, and Hanuman Tekdi, other places from the top of the fort.

Salota fort
This fort is the highest fort in Maharashtra with a height of 5141 feet above sea level. It is next to the salher fort. This fort was by Shivaji Maharaj in 1671 with other forts in the region. There is no shelter available on the fort.

We can see water tanks and other remnants of the fort. It takes 2-3 hours from the base village to reach the top of the fort. With salota we can complete salher, moragad, and hargad together in 3-4 days of time.
