History of Salota Fort

There is no prominent history of the fort available. This fort is at a height of 4250 feet above the sea level. This fort is in the north range of the Sahyadri hills. This range is known as the Selbari or Dolbari range.

The forts Salher, Mulher, Moragad, Hargad, and Salota are forts that fall in Dolbari range whereas Mangi-Tungi and Nhavigad fall in the Selbari range of the Sahyadri hills. This is also the border of the Daang region of west Gujarat and the Baglaan region of Maharashtra.

There are three entrances on the fort these entrances are in good condition. While entering the first entrance on the right side there are water tanks. On the last entrance on the right, there are a few more water tanks in this region.

To reach the top of the fort one has to go from the last entrance of the fort. These forts do not have any remains of the buildings. From the top we can see Salher Fort.

There are three routes to reach the fort:-
1) Waghambe route - to reach waghambe route on has to go to tahrabad and take buses or jeeps. You will reach Waghambe on the route to Mulher Fort. You will not find water on the route of Salota Fort. You will take 2-3 hours to reach the top of the fort the route is little tiring.
2) Maaldar route - this route is less used compared to others. To reach Maaldar you have to take a bus from Satana. This route will take 3 hours to reach the top.
3) Salherwadi route - you will reach via satana and tahrabad till mulher. It will take 3 hours via this route and cross about 6 entrances. Salher, mulher, salota, moragad and hargad can be completed in three continuous days.

Salher fort
This fort has a long history in short the Mughal emperor from delhi Sent two commanders Ikhlaas Khan and Bahlol Khan to capture the fort. They attacked the fort with an army of 20000 horses. They planned to attack the fort.

Shivaji Maharaj knew the plan and appointed Pratap Rao and Moropant Peshwa of Konkan to protect the fort. The battle was so fierce that dust rose within 3 kms of the battleground. Shivaji Maharaj's army only had 10000 soldiers at last whereas others left their life in the bloody war.

Shivaji Maharaj got 6,000 horses, 6,000 camels and 150 elephants from the war. He also got gold ornaments and other valuable clothing. This battle made Shivaji Maharaj famous like never before. Maharaj won the war because of the courage, intelligence and bravery of the Maratha army. There are temples, Ganga Sagar Talav and much more to see on the fort.

Mulher fort
This fort is near the Mulher Fort and geographically part of it. We can see a few water tanks and building structures which are in remnants now. We can see nearby forts from the top. You can even trek mulher and moragad in as single trek.

Hargad fort
Hargad is a fort that stands at a height of 3200 feet above sea level and a medium-grade trek. There is no history of the fort. The fort is basically a plateau; we can find remnants of the buildings, fortification walls, ruins of the temple and a few other water tanks.

There is nothing much to see on the fort. After seeing the fort one can descend to see the Mulher fort or return to the base village of Mulher. Hargad can be completed with other forts such as salher, mulher, salota and moragad in 2-3 days.
