After defeating Chandrarao more this fort was built for the protection of Konkan against the Siddis, Shivaji Maharaj built this fort in 1648 the pinnacle of the Lingana looks like a Shiva Linga hence it is named as Lingana the fort was used to keep the prisoners who were dangerous. The prisoners were kept because of its hardness to escape prisoners when reached the top they used to remove the ladders and they were kept at the top.
It was impossible to them to stay on the fort when they tried to escape from the fort they died because of hunger or thirst or serious injuries. Lingana was retained by Shivaji Maharaj by the treaty of Purandar with Raigad. This fort was maintained from the funds of Raigad till 1786.
