Castella de Aguada (Portuguese: Fort of the Water point), also known as the Bandra Fort. The Portuguese, who had secured a base in the region in 1534 in the wake of overcoming Bahadur Shah of Gujarat, manufactured a few ocean fortifications along the western Indian coastline.
Castella de Aguada was one such deliberately placed fortress, neglecting the Mahim Bay to the south, the Arabian Sea to the west, the islands of Worli to the south and the town of Mahim to the south west. The post likewise monitored the northern ocean course into Mumbai Harbor.
This ocean course, an extensive estuary, was later recovered from the ocean in the nineteenth century. Amid the Portuguese principle, it was outfitted with seven cannons and other littler firearms as guard. A freshwater spring in the region supplied consumable water to passing ships, along these lines giving the post its name.
After the decay of the Portuguese in the early eighteenth century, the Marathas turned into the biggest danger to British belonging. Sensing an approaching Portuguese rout, the British incompletely wrecked the fortification as a prudent measure.
The pulverization would deter the likelihood of the post being caught by the Marathas, with the likelihood of it being utilized as a forward army installation to assault British Bombay.
In 1739 the island was attacked by the Marathas; it was administered by them until 1774 when the British picked up ownership of the zone amid the First Anglo-Maratha War.
In 1830, the British gave expansive parts of Salsette Island, including Land's End (Click to view the Photosphere), to Byramjee Jeejee bhoy, a Parsi donor. Jeejeebhoy then settled his home on the slope where the fortification is spotted, and the cape was renamed Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Point.
The vital estimation of the post was improved in 1661 after the Portuguese ceded the seven islands of Bombay that lay to the quick south of Bandra to the English.
The name shows its beginning as a spot where new water was accessible as a wellspring ("Aguada") for Portuguese boats cruising the coasts in the starting time of Portuguese vicinity.
The stronghold lies over a few levels, from ocean level to a height of 24 meters (79 ft).castella de Aguada has been emphasized in a few Hindi movies, for example, Dil Chahta Hai and Buddha Mil Gaya.
Mahim Bay is a sound, some piece of the Arabian Sea in Mumbai India. The southern end is Worli, northern end is Bandra Reclamation and Mahim is in the focal point.
The sound was named after the islands of Mahim and Salsette were fused in the early nineteenth century. The Mithi River channels into Mahim Creek which empties into the Bay, and structures the fringe between the city and its suburbs.
Amid the pilgrim period, the Portuguese constructed a watch tower called Castella de Aguada on the northern side. Later, the British assembled the Worli Fort to the south and Mahim Fort close to the spring to shield the seven islands of Bombay against assaults by the Portuguese and the Marathas.
