Shivaji Maharaj conquered the fort in 1656, After 10 years in 1666 Mughals won the fort but they could not retain the fort for long time on 24th June 1670 Shivaji Maharaj regained the fort from Mughals. Previously this fort was originally built by the Yadavas. Rohida was strategically important to Pune as it was nearby Satara and joined with Kokan and many ghat ways.

From Pune there are ST (State Transport) buses or local transport available from Swargate to Bhor (66kms), and then from Bhor there are local transports available to the base village of fort (Bajarwadi).
Way from Mumbai to Rohida Fort
From Mumbai there are ST (State Transport) buses, Local transport or Train available to Pune Station (148kms), from Pune Station to Swargate there are local transport or city buses available, From Pune there are ST (State Transport) buses or local transport available from Swargate to Bhor (66kms), and then from Bhor there are local transports available to the base village of fort (Bajarwadi).
Note: - For bhor one has to come to Pune from Mumbai.

Places to visit nearby the Rohida Fort
This fort is 4200ft above the sea level and medium difficult trek. When Shivaji Maharaj was jailed by Mughals he escaped from Agra on 12th sept 1666, he returned to Rajgad. Shivaji Maharaj's first son Rajaram was born on 24th February 1670.Rajaram Maharaj took control of the Maratha Empire after the death of brother Sambhaji Maharaj in 1689 at the hands of Aurangzeb.

In the period 1671-1672 Shivaji Maharaj shifted his capital to Raigad from Rajgad and moved all his operations to Raigad from Rajgad. On 3rd April 1680 a bad day for Maratha empire Shivaji Maharaj died From there after empire saw a downfall till 11th march 1689 Sambahji Maharaj (Son of Shivaji Maharaj) was killed by Mughals and there after they captured Rajgad by Kishoresingh Hada (Mughal Sardar).

Marathas were not aware of the death of Sambhaji Maharaj and as the aim of Marathas was enough they united at the foot hills of Rajgad and any how captured the fort.
Torna
The major attraction near Rajgad is another fort which is Torna its Height above sea level is 4700 ft.
Torna is also called as Prachandagad.
As in Marathi it means Huge and its true seeing its huge expanse it really means "Prachanda". This fort was won by Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the age of sixteen. Locals say when Shivaji Maharaj was building the fort Maharaj got Hidden treasure from which he rebuild Fort Rajgad which is in the same region.

Torna is biggest fort in Pune region it stands at 4700 ft tall. Geographically it is a strong fort. Trekkers trek Rajgad to Torna at a time theirs route which joins Torna and Rajgad which takes 5-6 hrs Crossing Mountains. Winter and monsoon is the best season to visit the fort. From then one can have a stunning view of surroundings which includes neighbour Panshet Dam Backwaters and much more.
