History of Manikgad Fort

Manikgad was fabricated by the last Mana Naga King - Gahilu. The Mana Nagas settled here around 9 CE. At first, the stronghold was named Manikagad after the benefactor god of the Mana Nagas - Manikadevi - yet later on this got abbreviated to Manikgad.
Neighborhood legend holds that the post was manufactured by a Gond ruler named Mankyal (hence the name Manikgad). Nonetheless, the lintel of the doorway door has a Naga picture cut in relief and not the Gond symbol of lion and an elephant. So this legend is not genuine.
The fortification is constructed of huge dark stones and it would have been an impressive fortress in now is the right time. Defense dividers of the post encase a valley which has remnants of old structures and storage facilities. Layouts of a few lofts are obvious against the defense dividers.
The southern bastion alongside its supporting divider has crumpled. In the valley underneath untruths a gun which likely was mounted on that bastion. Not at all like a cast iron cannon, had this gun made of a few irons had straps welded together. The passage of the fortification is still in place.
Manikgad (also called Gad Chandur) is an antiquated stronghold in Chandrapur area, Maharashtra.
It is a slope stronghold 507 meters above ocean level manufactured by the Naga lords in the 9 C.E.currently the fortifications is in a condition of remnants and is as often as possible by wild creatures that live in the region like jaguars and hogs.
A few landmarks of recorded essentialness are likewise introduced in the region. On approach to Manikgad, passing by means of Rajura one runs over a little settlement called Candanvai, two miles south of which is an old silted talav by the side of which are pictures of Ganapati and different gods. On a stone section of around four feet high are cut the representations of sun and the moon with an ass mating with a lady beneath.Such stones are called as Gadhegaj.
This part is strewn with old broken icons, silted tanks and little Siva holy places showing that this tract was at one time a crowded one. Stays of some old structures are likewise seen.At Thutre, a town one needs to pass through on approach to Manikgad, is a compound divider of dark cut stone encasing a roomy patio.
Despite the fact that no remainders or even blueprints of any development are seen inside to-day, there is an object from olden times, out of utilization well. From Thutre, the following town on approach to Manikgad is Candur from where the post is more or less three to four miles off.
In the region of this town are seen the remaining parts of an expansive vada wherein a stone bearing is the pictures of a man and a lady, with the lady in a sitting carriage.
In the woods around are about six to seven Demolished Sanctuaries which appear to be frequented by wild creatures. In a large portion of them were seen the bones of the prey murdered by wild creatures.
