History of Pankot Fort.

Kelve shoreline in western suburbs is celebrated. Kelve Pankot is at some distance from the shoreline to the south, in the midst of the ocean and can be gone to just amid low tide. This was based on a rock where the Danda stream meets the ocean. From the area, the Portuguese could keep a watch on the rivulet and in Addition Ocean.

This stronghold is watercraft formed, and still in place. Amid the low tide, the ocean water clears and we can stroll to the stronghold. The reference for this stronghold is found in a letter composed by Chimaji Appa in 1739, amid the Maratha-Portuguese war.

The stronghold door is spotted 8 feet over the sea level. During high tide, we can specifically enter the stronghold by vessel, and during low tide, we need to climb 8 feet. There are openings in the dividers here for locking the entryway. Likewise, we can discover windows in the divider for groups.

In the wake of entering the fort, we see an alternate door, decently strengthened. This was implied for guarding if the first door was infiltrated. Entering this door, we enter a few leftovers and a lake. Ahead we enter the third doorway.

A piece of the fortress has 2 levels and is crescent fit as a fiddle. There is a well here. There are numerous windows here, either for mounting ordinances or firearms and for gathering octroi.

In 1516, Portuguese leader Dom Joao de Monoy entered the Mahim Creek and crushed the commandant of the Mahim fort. The fort was the site of incessant conflicts between the Portuguese and the Ali Shah, a Gujarati ruler before the island of Mahim was appropriated from Bahadur Shah of Gujarat by the Portuguese in 1534. In 1661, the Portuguese ceded the island of Mahim as an endowment to Charles II of England.

After the English picked up control of the fort, it was fortified by Sir Thomas Grantham in 1684, and turned into a vital watchtower against conceivable Portuguese assaults, and later from the Maratha's.

In 1772, the Portuguese endeavored to assault this fort however, they were repulsed by the British with cannonballs. Mount Mary's Basilica was harmed by this experience. As indicated by verifiable records, the fortress had 100 warriors and 30 guns around then.
