History of Pargad fort.
The fortress was built with a plan of watching out for the Anti-Swaraj developments of Portuguese and Sawantwadi rulers. This pargad remains as a witness of that brilliant time and impresses a light of trust and velour in today's youth.
These forts assumed the part of watch tower of the Maratha Empire. Shivaji's statue and temple devoted to Goddess Bhagwati Devi remain inside the fort.
Local people say that around 500 warriors (Maratha Mawale) used this fort to live in fortification for almost 300 years. Their occupation was to protect the fort and encompassing towns. Proof reveals that a medieval background was present in those times.
Rajmata Jijabai passed on Abati Krishna, a ‘Saranjamdar’ to take care of support for awareness at the fortress she selected Narsing Rao and Yashawant Shinde.

There is only one way, made up of rock steps to arrive at the fort, fortification on east and west sides. The best part of the fort is the bronze statue of Shivaji Maharaj and the temple goddess ‘Bhagwati’ also known as ‘Bhavani mata’.
