Vardhangad is a hill fort which lies on the Bhadle-Kundlaspur of the Mahadev range on the boundary between Koregaon and Khatav talukas. Vardhangad fort is around 20 km from Koregaon. The fort is around 900 feet high Koregaon side and 700 feet high from Khatav side.

The construction of the fort was started by Shivaji Maharaj in the year 1673 and was finished in 1674. The fort of Vardhangad was used as an outpost guarding the east frontier of his newly acquired territory. In the year 1800 the fort was gone in the hands of Pratinidhi who invested Mahadji Shinde's force of about 25,000 men. 

In the south-west Machi the Ramoshis attacked and killed the horse of Muzafarkan one of Shinde's generals. After that the machis were sacked and burnt.In the year 1803, Balvantrao Bakshi one of the commandant of the fort, found a battle with Yesai Saheb Firangi. The Machis were saked, the fort was shelled and the contribution of 3,000 Rs. was levied.
