History of Alang Fort

Alang Fort doesn't have much documented history the fort went into the hands of the Maratha, Mughals and the Britishers took control at the last.

The tribal and Maratha revolutionaries took refuge in this fort during the British rule hence seeing this Britishers destroyed the steps and made the fort inaccessible to them.
Alang Fort is situated in the Kalsubai range of Nashik district known most difficult trek among the trekkers in Maharashtra it is advised that the Alang cannot be trekked solo because of its confusing pathways and many risks involved.

Many patches while climbing the fort where you're climbing skills will be tested to a huge extent. As it is a difficult trek in Maharashtra it can be done separately trekkers prefer Alang, Madan and Kulang together base villages Ambewadi, Kulangwadi or Udadhawane depending on the route.

The best time to trek Alang Madan and Kulang fort is November and February because in the rainy season, the route to reach the fort can be dangerous in because it can be slippery.

The trek to Alang Madan and Kulang can be done in three days the two peaks Alang and Kulang can be done together but Madangad is the hardest amongst them and the favorite due to its difficulty to climb.

If one has to go only to Alang Udadhawane is the base village and it will take 7 hours. Difficult patches can occur while trekking Alang.

The Alang Fort is a huge plateau the fort has many water cisterns on the fort in which water is not potable for shelter there are two caves in which one can spend the night on the Alang fort where is tent is not necessary. Alang fort offers a view of the vast plains of the mountains and pinnacles and the Bhandardara Lake.

As it is a difficult trek in Maharashtra it can be done separately trekkers prefer Alang, Madan and Kulang together base villages Ambewadi, Kulangwadi or Udadhawane depending on the route. Alang fort 
which is also called as Alangad lies in the Nashik district of Maharashtra of Kalsubai ranges. The forts top is a huge plateau. There are two caves, a temple and 11 water cisterns. There are remnants of the building which are spread all over.

On the north side of the forts there are Kalsubai, Aundh fort and Bitangad whereas to the north there are Trymbakgad, Harihar and Anjaneri and to the south side are Harishchandragad, Ajobagad, Ratangad and Katrabai.

Madangad fort
Madangad fort is among the hardest treks in Maharashtra and Sahyadris situated at a height of 4900 ft, this fort has area larger than the other two forts nearby Alang and Kulang, the top of the fort has only two water tanks in which water is available till February for accommodation there is caves in which 15-20 trekkers can spend a night it also offers a scenic view of the other places such as Alang, Kulang, Ratangad, Ajyagad, Katrabai, Dangya Pinnacle, Harihar and Trimbakeshwar with an span of 30 mins to see complete fort.

To reach Madangad fort there is base village Ambewadi to reach Madangad the route is very hard and there are steps, after the steps there is a steep climb of 50 feet to reach top of the fort.

Important climbing skills and techniques are required to the top of the fort there are bolts fixed which help trekkers to climb easier it will take 7 hours to 8 hours to reach the Madangad fort from the Ambewadi base village.

Important notice is it requires trekking equipment's and professional experience.

Kulangad
Kulangad fort hard trek but easier than Madangad and alang at an height of 4500 ft above sea level and it does not require any climbing equipment  it will take around 5-6 hours from the ambewadi and Kulangwadi base village there are 2-3 caves on the top which can accommodate 30-40 peoples there is also drinking water on the fort as there are 2-3 water tanks near the caves remnants of the two palaces can be seen as we move ahead to the west we can see bastion and A small hill called "Chotya Kulang" (Smaller kulang). 10 water cisterns are on the left side of the entrance inn which water is not potable.

Shiva linga Which is rock carved can be seen from here walking straight you will get near the gully from which the mountain water is stored with a barrier and it is stored in the water tanks on the top and the water flows through the gullies to the "Gomukh" the engineering is unknown of the construction 

From the top of the fort you can see Alang, Madan, kalsubai and Wilson dam on the west.
The best time to visit the Kulang fort is any time but except the monsoon and the summer as in monsoon the route gets slippery and harder to climb and in summer the water may not be able and due to the heat you can completely get exhausted and tired. Trekkers usually prefer in early winter and post winter.

Alang, Madan and Kulang forts are the best spots for the trekkers and climbers in the sahyadris and most favorites among them.
